Rochelle Toner

Rochelle Toner

Etching, aquatint, spitbite
18 x 15 inches
Printed by C.R. Ettinger Studio; 2003

Edition of 50

Dean of the Tyler School of Art at Temple University for thirteen years, Rochelle Toner works directly in the space between representative and abstract forms. She seeks to explore the way that interaction between conscious and unconscious thought processes transforms literal shapes into abstract. Toner renders mysteriously suggestive forms in a believable, accessible manner. Her work is included in the collections of the Corcoran Museum of Art, Washington DC; Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia, PA; Yale University, New Haven, CT; and Museo Aeronautico, Italy.

Actively involved as a printmaker in the Philadelphia art scene for over two decades, Toner has shown at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Institute of Contemporary Art Philadelphia, Art in City Hall, Samuel S. Fleisher Art Memorial, the Free Library of Philadelphia, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, and has also been the recipient of two Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Grants. Beyond Philadelphia, she has exhibited in Indiana, Italy, Washington DC, New York City, and Ireland. Toner was the 2010 Printmaker Emeritus for the Southern Graphics Council and participated in both the 14th National Print Invitational in Dallas, Texas, and the International Printmaking Exchange in Melbourne, Australia.
